The community of Córrego da Bica, in Recife, faces high risks of natural disasters, such as landslides, exacerbated by the lack of adequate urban infrastructure and accessible information about these risks. In response, the project Rapid Cartography 1.0 was created to develop a digital platform that provides strategic and easily accessible data, supporting both the local population and Civil Defense in preventive actions. a
The objective was to develop an informative and intuitive platform that facilitated access to critical data and allowed for quicker and more accurate decision-making. My role included understanding user needs, defining essential functionalities, and creating a design that made access to information simple and efficient. This initial phase of the project was designed to be presented to investors seeking funding for full implementation.
The project was conducted in iterative cycles, where each phase helped refine and validate the final solution, ensuring that it fully met the needs of the users. I began the process by interviewing representatives from the Civil Defense to identify critical points and priorities:
User Research and Protopersonas: We analyzed the usability of the previous website and developed protopersonas representing the residents and agents of the Civil Defense, highlighting the need for quick and accessible information about the area's risks.
Definition of Features and Product Vision: In collaboration with the stakeholders, we defined the main features, such as identifying risk areas, accessing data on preventive actions, and mapping social vulnerability.
Prototyping and Testing: I developed low-fidelity prototypes for initial validations, which were refined based on feedback from stakeholders. The final navigable prototype was structured with an organized information architecture and an intuitive interface.
By the end of this phase, the project delivered a robust platform, ready for presentation to investors. The platform centralizes essential information, allowing:
Identification of risk areas and real-time monitoring, assisting in preventive decision-making.
Visualization of actions taken by the Civil Defense in the community, ensuring that residents have access to updated data on safety measures.
Mapping of evacuation routes and urban infrastructure, allowing the community to visualize the safest routes in emergency situations.
